If you had to play one mix to a 90s Force and Styles Heart of Gold era raver to give an example of what current hardcore is like, what would it be?
For the sake of argument, they don't know anything from the 90's til now, you won't get their attention with modern hardcore. You'd have to have been through the transition or started your journey when the style was UK hardcore. around 2000 ish ?

Probably or around the time of Bonkers 8.
For current hardcore, could check out tracks from 24/7 Hardcore label from....you know the artists or from the last few Hardcore Heaven albums.

Showing something by Darren Styles would show what the current version of his music is like.
Eras usually have musical tendencies but I feel the current style is hard to pigeonhole.
For some the attraction to heart of gold may have been the blend of the cheese instruments (hoover stab, m1 piano, big kick) and Jenna's very mainstream voice. Now to me the current sound is lacking in the "cheese" department and most everything is super polished now. To me it's like prefering real life imagery over cartoons type graphics (for lack of a better analogy).

As much as I love freeform and uk hardcore, I still fckin hate most of the recent UK hardcore. Not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing. Certainly makes me want to produce more. I really can't stand that sound, not only do I hate hardcore with that sound, I hate any music with that sound. Also where I live it's impossible to introduce that sound too, it's just too cheezy and "trying too hard". It's the equivalent in music to "the magic being gone" in youknowwhat. Just does not float the boat like some Scott Brown's anthems did for example.
I do have a couple of fairly recent tracks in my playlist and by recent I mean......
This is definitely one of the best tracks with that newschool sound imo.
Not that recent really but we can pretend it is
Of course people have different musical tastes etc but in my perspective, at least, mostly only freeform has that thing going on where you simply can't wait for the next release, fangirling like a bich. I don't even really follow the UK hardcore anymore, only check whats up on the labels like once a year.
To be frank, that would change with just a single release that does float the boat but it seems like that sound simply either plays in my head or through my speakers if I manage to produce it myself. Gotta put those hours in

Hardcore coming out these days is dross AF ! I honestly cannot remember the last time a track was released which gave me the good old goosebumps like they used to. With the new release of HH6 I was hoping that would slightly change but nope, I should have known better when i saw it was Jakka B and Macks Wolf with CD2, just awful.
On the rare occasion i do hear a track i like the sound of its 99.9% an unreleased DJ Tool or bootleg, that will probably never see the light of day. A close pal of mine was after an edit Stonebank did on one of Hixxy's Rinse mixes, and he basically got told to jog on when he asked about its availability.
I love the music (earlier) but its vastly going down the toilet.
