He said the other day that scratching was irrelavent, and that pissed me right off, it isn't. I think its a great thing to add to a set if you are good at it. He is good at it too.

In what context did he say that?
Was he saying it to someone so they wouldn?t feel bad about not being able to do it? Or was it a general statement?

You are always pissed off about something, arent you? 😂
But yes, love scratching when its done properly. Not heard one of kutskis sets in a while but he was always quite good at it. Nobody in hardcore has ever come close to Sy though - an absolute master at work.

quote:What?s you feeling on scratching in 2019? I don?t think it?s really relevant in hard dance music anymore, not in clubs / festivals anyway, but I still mess around a lot at home just because I always loved it 🤓

If anyone can work that out and post his video up here, feel free, it was taken off his facebook few days ago. The quote was from him.
I looked it up on his Facebook. I so-pose with the way most DJ?s play these days fast mixing means you have no time for scratching in hardcore, and I so-pose with more and more DJ?s not actually able to beat match scratching is also off the cards.
It?s sad to see someone like him saying that.
I would love to learn to scratch. Might one day fully commit to learning. Him saying that doesn?t put me off wanting to learn. In fact it makes me want to learn more to prove him wrong, but that?s just me. If someone tells me I can?t do something or it?s not worth doing I?m more likely to just go do it.

if you ask me, scratching is almost as irrelevant as mcing :P
"Oh, so you know how to ruin your needle much faster in a cooler way, huh?"

It's disappointing to hear, because I love it when DJ's scratch. Sy is obviously the king, but DJ's like Slipmatt and Brisk used to do it and others.
Slipmatt is fking amazing at it, as good as Sy imo, but he didn't do it as regularly. 2 DJ's with 2 different scratch styles. Sy's was very uplifting , really gave energy, Slipmatt had at times an almost melodic style of scratching

Do you have any examples of sy?s scratching? I?ve only heard him on 1 album and it wasn?t that great.

Have you not heard any of the thousand DJ Sy sets online? He literally scratches on every set.

Nope. I?ve never heard a single One. The only ones I?ve listened to live recordings of are Darren Styles, Gammer & Klubfiller.
