Event name: Hard Hits: Generations
Starts: August 7th, 2010
Country: United States
State/Territory: Massachusetts
Hardcore has had quite a long history in the New England scene. The first height of its
popularity was in 2000 when any hardcore DJ had a room full of people stomping to the
classic sounds of pianos and love-ballad vocals. All of the tracks from the Happy 2B
Hardcore compilations were the hits of the day. It was the golden age of raving and the party
kids came out in droves to the events.
Sadly, hardcore was still predominantly only featured in the side rooms of most events.
Eventually, this second-rate treatment allowed hardcores popularity to wane over the next
few years into nothingness.
However, the hardcore from those days are what inspired the hardcore events of today
including Hard Hits. This month, the original New England hardcore generation meets the
hardcore generation of today.
And to school all of you new hardcore heads out there about New Englands underground
hardcore roots, before the music starts we will be screening the Lost Year; a documentary
about a year in the life of one of the Attleboro Crew during the year 2000. This year of
indulgence between newly-wed ravers explodes into divorce, disastrous relationships, and
full-blow drug exploration. It is a look back at the golden years and an educational warning of
the pitfalls of participating in this scene even today. For more information, check out
The Lost Year .
To facilitate the meeting of the classic and current generations, we will have a second room at
this special Hard Hits. One room will be the Classic Core room featuring sonik EP and his
friends Lite-Brite and DJ Slippy. To round out the rest of the Classic Core, we have old-
school-ravers-turned-DJs DJ Orange Alert and Keither to drop hardcore classics from the old
days as well!
The New Core room will feature current faces from the hardcore scene. Hard Hitting support
will be present in the form of mark5 and DJ Tre. Then, we have three Hard Hits debuts for the
rest of New Core slots! First up, we have Dark Wolf of Knuckle-Up. Second, we have Mix
Master Bates of The Herd from the Rochester/Buffalo scene. And our special guests, Trigga
Happy, round out the final debut!
For those of you not in the know, Trigga Happy is a B2B team from Baltimore; one part drum
and bass, one part hardcore. Hard Hits is just one of their many stops this summer as they
deliver their mixture of core and bass to cities all around the eastern half of the US. Be sure
to catch this unique hardcore experience!
In case you have not noticed, Hard Hits is not about profit. It is about community and hard
electronic dance music. We feel that all of this is important for you to learn about the history
and to experience first-hand, so we are keeping the price for this event at $8. Same bargain
price, more than double the Hard Hitting action! In return, we hope that you continue to help
us build this community and coming back each month so that we can keep the Hard Hits
beating strong. This is for all of us.
