may i suggest a forum for the new people to introduce themselves where they can find the set rules and beginners guide to being a member of the forum, we all love :)
or even a count down between posts or creating topics to save ourselves from sifting through the crap that they post :(
i know we all started out that way but some people seem to take it too far ..
thanks Tam

IMO its a good idea in theory and it will prolly work on the *majority* of newbies, but ull always come across some rebels who go against the grain and we still do as they please.
*shrugs*
Crack another one !!!

true but then youll know the genuine members to the annoying "rebel" types.. and if we all get to know who the new people are they will feel more comfortable posting messages in the forums after meeting us all ;) ass for the rebel types well errmmmm boot em? lol

Set rules? Beginner's guide? Kinda inappropriate for an open forum, dontcha think?
Sure, there's that "no mp3 talk" rule, which is explicit, and some that are created on the fly, like the "no more flip&fill topics" rule, but generally speaking you can't regulate how people behave on a forum like this without severely damaging the quality of discussion. The best way IMO is to let nature take its course and let the members regulate eachother and themselves.

^^ excellent answer... Moderation is key... setting too many rules people wont speak their mind and no one will learn anything new.
That is not an open invitation to post whatever you want either... I delete or lock total waffle or total waste of time posts and try and help the newbies... there are always going be newbies, can't help that... just it's upto every to help and welcome them :)

Most of the stuff just has to be learned, but spam protection to sotp n00bs posting shite loads of topics in quick succession (not mentioning any names :)) should really be stamped out, but I guess good moderation is what is needed, and silver provides.. Hey silver, if you ever need some modders to help you ;) haha

is that similar to the featured poll?
also, as soon as sum1 does 1 or 2 bad posts, ppl usually ket them know about it, therefore, wouldnt that also discourage ppl from saying what they want?

^^ no, it'll discourage 'em from putting up bad posts
If they're just new then it'll probably also discourage them from posting at all, which is a shame, but it won't be a problem if everyone just tries to be nice and take it easy on the n00b13z when they're just learning the ropes ... until they've got some posts under their belts, that is, then you give it to 'em good

^^ umm ... won't we tell 'em? To quote toxic: "as soon as sum1 does 1 or 2 bad posts, ppl usually ket them know about it" - it looks like you answered your own question before you even asked it
... and of course, when we let them know about it, we're gonna be nice and polite about it, aren't we?

lol once again the conversation went off path mateeeee
i dont mean like rules that are seriously retarded that stop people from coming here .. but think about the positives of it since ive been there have been a shit load of people sign up that just magically appeared while i got a life lol but anywho i dunno who they are im sure most us dont know each other at all.. and i know some people would probably post more if they were said hi to, ( then theyd look at your profile n see what your into) instead random rif raf that has nothing to do with anything.. anywho just a suggestion lol
 :P
