Just tried searching for some info today and the query took forever, might be a good idea just to wipe out some of the older topics.

I agree with the cleanup, but then what happens when a newbie comes on and posts a topic on something we've already discussed, and everyone turns around like the nasty pricks we are and tell them it's already been discussed, and someone locks the topic, and we tell them to UTFSE ... and IT ISN'T THERE!!!!
i figure it'd be kinda embarassing to say the least :P

how about a seciton on the site where if a topic gets asked more then a set number of times (say 5) it goes to a certian section where the findings of our discussions are put, thatway you could have a cleanup and not look like idiots when people ask and there is no answer anymore

dang ... i was just foolin' around. didn't think anyone would take me seriously, let alone come up with a solution to my joke problem :P
but yeah that sounds like a good (if rather complicated) idea, but i'm also warming to the thought that maybe the slate should be wiped clean and the everyone run around with scissors in their hands, so to speak. i mean, some of these topics are pretty old. there might be something to gain by opening things up for discussion again. if not, at the very least it should be pretty funny :)

some of the discussions are old but still need a reply, it will take a bit of time for new people to come and ask the questions, so it should go on as normal i recon

the only topics that ever get repeated on here pretty often are "best tune ever" or "where can i get such and such on mp3" or "who thinks the new shooting star sucks"
i've only seen 1 or 2 other discussions that are repeated, but those 3 take the piss

Forum stickies do this well I guess and eventually when the discussion becomes old/outdated you can get rid of it.

maybe have a welcoming thread where newbies can introduce themselves and you can put a few of the guidelines and suggestions (i.e. searching before posting) in there?
drugs is not the answer... drugs? is the question... yes is the answer

good idea ... has the potential to be a HUGE thread but it would be nice to have it though - i've noticed that not everyone takes the time to intro themselves. i know i didn't :P

well really and truely you have to take this into consideration, a newbie is gunna be spun out by all this "newbie forum" stuff, to them they will feel shy and unwelcome and the site will appear complicated and unsatisfing...
